Privacy policy
The short version
This policy explains what personal information MoneyPlanIt collects when you use the site, why we collect it, who helps us process it, how long we keep it and what your rights are. We’ve kept it as short and plain as we can.
- You can read every lesson and guide, and play quiz Level 1 and Stage 1 of the Pattern Trainer, without giving us any personal information.
- If you create a free account, we store your email address, your quiz progress and whether you’ve agreed to receive offers and news by email.
- Marketing emails are off unless you tick the box. You can turn them off at any time.
- We don’t sell your information and we don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
- You can delete your account yourself at any time from the Progress page, or in Settings in the app. You can also ask to see, correct or delete your information by emailing your contact email.
Who we are
MoneyPlanIt is run by your name or business name (“we”, “us”). We decide how and why your personal information is used, which makes us the controller of that information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

What we collect and why
If you use the site without an account
We don’t ask for any personal information. Your quiz progress, XP and a few settings are saved in your own browser on your device (see “Browser storage” below). We can’t see them.
Like every website, the services that deliver the site receive some technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. Our hosting provider (your hosting provider, for example Netlify or Cloudflare) uses this to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Our fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when your browser fetches them.
If you create a free account
| What | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To create your account, send you sign-in codes and recognise you when you log in. We only keep it after you’ve verified it with a code. |
| Sign-in codes | Each 6-digit code is sent to your email to prove the address is yours. Codes expire after 10 minutes and can be used once. |
| An account ID and the date your email was verified | To run your account and keep it secure. |
| Your quiz progress and XP | So your progress is saved to your account and you can carry on from another device. |
| Your marketing choice | Whether you’ve agreed to receive offers and news by email. |
| A record of that choice | The wording you agreed to, when you gave or changed your answer, and whether you did it at sign-up or in your settings. The law requires us to be able to show that you consented. |
Anonymous quiz feedback
To find out which parts of our lessons are hard to follow, the quiz sends us a small, anonymous note when a question is answered wrongly the first time, or when a clue or the “Show me in the lesson” button is used. The note says only which lesson, level and question it was, and which wrong answer was picked. It includes no account ID, email address or device ID, and nothing is stored on your device to send it.
At the end of each level you can also tell us if anything was unclear, by ticking topics and, if you like, writing a short comment. This is optional and anonymous too. Please don’t include personal details: we remove anything that looks like an email address or phone number before it’s sent.
These notes are stored by Supabase (see “Who we share information with”). Like any web request, Supabase’s servers see your IP address when a note arrives, but we don’t store it with the feedback. We only look at the notes as totals, such as “40 people found question 3 hard”, to improve the lessons.
If you contact us
If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply and deal with your request.
What we don’t collect
We don’t ask for your name, phone number, payment details or any trading or bank account information. We don’t use analytics or advertising cookies, and we don’t build profiles of what you read. If that ever changes, we’ll update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Emails we send
- Sign-in codes. Sent only when you ask for one. These are part of the service, so you can’t opt out of them, but we never send them unprompted.
- Offers and news. Sent only if you ticked the box “Email me new lessons, news and offers from MoneyPlanIt. I can unsubscribe at any time.”. The box is never ticked for you. You can stop these emails at any time from the Progress page (untick the box) or by emailing us. Every marketing email also includes an unsubscribe link.
We send any offers ourselves. We don’t give or sell your email address to brokers, advertisers or other companies.
Our lawful bases
Data protection law requires a lawful basis for each use of your information. Ours are:
| Use | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Running your account, sending sign-in codes and saving your progress | Contract: it’s needed to provide the account you asked for. |
| Sending offers and news by email | Consent: you ticked the box, and you can withdraw consent at any time. |
| Keeping a record of your marketing choice | Legal obligation and legitimate interests: we need to be able to prove consent. |
| Technical logs, security and preventing abuse (for example limiting how often codes can be requested) | Legitimate interests: keeping the site and your account secure. |
| Replying to messages you send us | Legitimate interests: answering your questions and requests. |
| Anonymous quiz feedback | Legitimate interests: finding and fixing the parts of our lessons people find hard. It’s anonymous and optional to add comments. |
Cookies and browser storage
We don’t use cookies for tracking or advertising. The site saves a few items in your browser’s local storage, a small store on your own device, so that it works the way you’d expect:
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| moneyPlanIt.progress.v1 | Your quiz levels, XP and the last lesson you played. | Until you clear it or reset your progress. |
| moneyPlanIt.trainer.v1 | Your Pattern Trainer progress and drawings. | Until you clear it or reset the trainer. |
| moneyPlanIt.country | Whether you chose the UK or US edition of a guide. | Until you clear it or choose again. |
| moneyPlanIt.auth | Keeps you logged in if you have an account. | Until you log out. |
| moneyPlanIt.pendingCode | Remembers which email a sign-in code was sent to, so you can finish signing in if you close the tab. | Removed once you sign in, or when the code expires. |
These are needed for features you ask to use, so we don’t ask for consent to store them. You can delete them at any time by clearing your browser’s site data. That will reset any progress that isn’t saved to an account.
International transfers
Some of our providers are based in, or use servers in, the United States and other countries outside the UK. When your information is transferred outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK law allows: the UK’s adequacy regulations (including the UK–US data bridge for providers certified under it) or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for details of the safeguard used for a particular provider.
How long we keep your information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Account details and quiz progress | Until you delete your account or ask us to. We delete accounts that haven’t been used for 3 years, after emailing you a warning first. |
| Sign-in codes | 10 minutes, after which they can no longer be used. |
| Your marketing choice and the record of it | For as long as your account exists, and for up to 2 years after you withdraw consent or delete your account, so we can show when consent was given or withdrawn. |
| Emails you send us | Up to 2 years after we’ve finished dealing with your message. |
| Anonymous quiz feedback | Up to 400 days, then deleted automatically. |
| Technical logs held by our providers | For the short period set by each provider, usually a few weeks. |
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Correct information that’s wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your information (sometimes called the right to be forgotten).
- Restrict or object to how we use it, including objecting to direct marketing at any time.
- Data portability: receive your account information in a machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time. This doesn’t affect emails sent before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email your contact email from the address on your account. It’s free, and we’ll reply within one month. If we need to confirm it’s really you, we may send a code to your email address. You can switch marketing emails off, or delete your whole account, yourself on the Progress page (or in Settings in the app). You can delete progress stored in your browser by clearing the site’s data.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please email us first at your contact email and we’ll try to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or call 0303 123 1113. If you live in the European Union, you can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Children
MoneyPlanIt is written for adults learning about trading and investing. Accounts are not intended for anyone under 18. If you think a child has created an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
Keeping your information secure
Accounts use one-time email codes rather than passwords, so there’s no password to steal. Codes expire quickly, can only be used once, and are limited to a few attempts. The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Our database only lets each signed-in person read and change their own account, and the list of email addresses is kept in a separate, locked-down area that the website itself can’t read. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect your information and will tell you and the ICO about a serious breach where the law requires it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page if we change how we use personal information, and change the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll tell you by email before it takes effect.
